Joanne Schmalenberger has been in the Fitness and Wellness business since 1978. She started by teaching dance aerobics at Obie’s Aerobic Center in Natick. In 1978, she developed an in-home program for women called “Totally for You,” known today as Personal Training. In 1985, she created the first mobile fitness business for kids called “Fun Fitness on the Run,” bringing creative movement to pre-school, nursery school and after school programs. All designed to keep the kids active and happy. She further developed Fun Fitness programs for local Adult Education, Natick Hospital, and Natick Parks & Recreation. Her approach is always safe, always fun. In 1991, Joanne opened her first studio called “Country Fitness & Fun, Inc.” offering an educational and enjoyable way to exercise. She also started “Fun Fitness on the Run Summer Camp.” In 1995, she introduced Rebounding to the area. In 1997, she attended advance health and fitness studies in Tampa, Florida and Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1998, she became one of the first Resistaball instructors in New England, training other instructors throughout the region. In the same year she extended the training of Rebounding and Resistaball into local clubs and adult programs. Joanne has made many appearances performing her dynamic energy interactive music and movement for hundreds of children at a time. In 2000, Joanne studied Feldenkrais in Kietulahof, Switzerland. After returning she became the first Level-3 Yamuna® Body Rolling Trainer/Instructor. She studied heart math, physconeuromology, and physiological anatomy to become a Reike practitioner, a Thai Massage Energy Healer, and a Lomi Lomi Massage Therapist. She became a Yamuna Zakes New England Educator and Body Worker for Body Rolling. She also became a Master Reboundologist and Educator and a Smart Bells® Instructor and Educator. Using Smart Bells and other props she developed a playful weight training program. Joanne’s philosophy is that “Life is not predictable so why should your exercise be. It is not how we look it is how we feel. Use gravity to strengthen you, not weaken you. Training in multidimensional patterns gives us the flexibility to enjoy a happier life.” Joanne has worked on New England Patriot’s players using the therapeutic benefits of Body Rolling and other modalities. Joanne presents the latest Fitness and Wellness information to the public on her weekly Cable TV show entitled Beyond Fitness®.
